Simply smashing! Dr DOA is an amazing fantasy tribute to Fleming's iconic spy

DR. DOA A Secret Histories Novel by Simon R. Green Berkley Publishing Group Sci Fi & Fantasy Pub Date: June 7, 2016

Review Simply smashing! Eddie Drood, aka Shaman Bond, is Fleming's iconic character cheekily reimagined for a wild world where magic, aliens, and alternate realities are everyday (even if the ordinary person does their best to pretend otherwise). Simon Green simultaneously parodies and praises the tropes we know so well from the Bond films - like the Matriarch (for M) and the Armourer (for Q who must always be visited before a mission, just because that's the way it is done). At the same time, Simon Green's novel is far more than a parody. It is a gorgeously imagined urban fantasy filled with strange beings, unusual technology and more than a little mayhem to amp up the fun. The witty and flirtatious interplay between Molly and Eddie is an absolute joy, reminiscent of the fun screwball comedies of the 1930s. It is always fun to see how they respond to the challenges thrown their way - and in Dr. DOA there is more than a few. Eddie Drood is dying. Someone managed to slip him a poison the likes of which no one has ever seen. The suspect - Dr. DOA, a shadowy assassin of which little is known other than that his victims never survive and no one knows how he kills them. Attacking the Drood family is never a good idea, and Eddie and Molly are loathe to give up before finding a cure and/or giving Dr. DOA a taste of his own medicine. In their search for clues, you can expect rapier wit, thrilling action, and more than a few amazing events. The only thing that I didn't care for is that Dr. DOA ends on a cliffhanger and that I will have to wait until the next novel, Moonbreaker, comes out to find out what happens next. 5/5 I received a copy of Dr. DOA from the publisher and netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review. --Crittermom Description

From the New York Times bestselling author of From a Drood to a Kill comes the next Secret Histories adventure... The name is Drood, Eddie Drood, also known as Shaman Bond. My family has been safeguarding humanity for generations, facing the hidden horrors of the world so you can sleep at night and remain oblivious to the existence of the monstrous nightmares that walk and stalk among us. Speaking of predatory night terrors, there is a man who gets away with murder. A man who specializes in removing the problems from other people's lives, by killing the people who cause those problems. He operates from the darkest shadows of the hidden world, coming and going unseen. No-one knows who he is, just his nomme du muerte. Dr. DOA. Somehow, this demented doc poisoned me. I don't know how he did it, when or where, but whatever is coursing through my veins seems to be immune to magic cures and treatments. But that's not going to stop me from finding him and whoever hired him and give them both a taste of their own medicine...
