To Catch a Treat

Pub Date: May 8, 2016
For an animal lover, nothing is more devastating than losing a pet. It is even worse to have reason to believe that your pet was stolen. Sadly, it isn’t uncommon for pets to be stolen for resale purposes - and it doesn’t only happen to purebreds. This very real issue plays an important role in To Catch a Treat, Linda O’Johnston’s newest Barkery and Biscuits bake shop mystery.
Carrie’s brother, Neal is interested in a young woman Janelle Blaystone, and he wants Carrie to check her out. Janelle behaves oddly, but that is swiftly explained. Her beloved black Lab, Go, was recently stolen, along with a number of other dogs in LA. Janelle has come to Knobcone because the family of Ada Arnquist, the woman she suspects of being behind the thefts, has a large estate - perfect for hiding stolen dogs. When Carrie introduces Janelle to a black Lab newly arrived at the local shelter, the dog ends up being Go!
All is well until Janelle confronts Ada during the celebration of Go’s discovery. When Ada Arnquist is discovered brutally murdered, attention immediately is drawn to Janelle. Carrie believes that Janelle is innocent, but proving it won’t be easy.
To Catch a Treat has everything a dog loving reader could want in a mystery - a great, animal themed plot that is full of surprises, terrific pets, a beautiful setting, a fantastic lead, and mouthwatering recipes for humans and their furry friends. If you love animals and mysteries, Linda O’Johnston’s novels should definitely be a part of your library.
I received a copy of To Catch a Treat from the publisher and netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
Carrie Kennersly, veterinary technician and owner of the Barkery and Biscuits bake shop, agrees to a day of hiking with her brother Neal mostly because she wants to meet—and critique—his latest romantic interest, Janelle Blaystone. But instead of judgment, Carrie has only sympathy for Janelle, whose beloved black Labrador, Go, was recently dognapped along with many other purebred pets
Janelle thinks the culprit is Ada Arnist, a wealthy homeowner spotted at the dog parks where Go and the others were stolen. Soon after Janelle confronts her, though, Ada is found dead. With Janelle and Neal on the suspect list, Carrie must solve the mystery before the police bark up the wrong tree.
