Missy DuBois is a milliner with a flair for the dramatic and an imaginative eye. When she sees that the Sweetwater mansion is for sale - at a price she and Bo can afford, all she can see are the future possibilities. As an added bonus, the realtor is none other than former classmate and sorority sister Mellette Babineaux. When she brings Bo to see the mansion, they discover Mellette’s body. Missy feels that she must investigate, for Mellette’s sake. Was she murdered because of the rumors of treasure hidden near the house? Or did she anger the local Voodoo Queen? Why is Sweetwater being sold so cheaply?
Missy’s investigative techniques may be clumsy, but she makes up for it with determination. There are some extremely funny situations that arise in her attempts to gather information. Something Foul at Sweetwater is a solid cozy filled with Louisiana flavor. Readers will enjoy the interplay between Missy and Bo. It is sweet without being overdone, and it is a pleasure to see that by the end they start exploring relationship possibilities. The clean nature of the novel makes it appropriate for all ages.
Something Foul at Sweetwater has everything cozy lovers ask for - an amiable, likable protagonist, a colorful setting, humor and a well plotted mystery. It makes an excellent follow up to Murder at Morningside.
