Once again Sofie Kelly has given cat loving readers the perfect treat - an exciting and original addition to her Magical cats cozy series. I adore Owen and Hercules, and love the fact that despite their “unique” talents they remind me of my own beloved pets. I nearly fell off my seat laughing as I read the introductory scene. I don’t want to give any spoilers, so I will simply say - Cohabiting with cats can definitely lead to some funny situations. The plot is excellent. A developer is looking to build in Mayville Heights, and the town is divided on whether it is a good idea. Amidst the controversy, three old friends of Kathleen’s boyfriend Detective Marcus Gordon arrive in town. Their goal is to evaluate the environmental impact of the potential development. The reunion doesn’t go smoothly, and one of the three clearly holds a grudge. When Dani is murdered, all of the evidence points to Marcus. Knowing he is innocent is one thing, but proving it is another. Fortunately Kathleen has investigated murders before, and she has help in the form of Owen and Hercules.
The Magical Cats mystery series has a lot to offer readers. First there are Owen and Hercules, a fantastic duo, as well as the numerous feral cats that reside in Mayville Heights. Then there are the charming residents who have made Mayville Heights their home. As you read Sofie Kelly’s novels, you come to know and care for her friends. Last, there are the wonderful plots. I always know that I am in for a good time when I pick up one of her novels.
Paws and Effect is a charming pet cozy, a delight for cat lovers and mystery aficionados. Whether you love animals or are simply looking for a good cozy mystery, Paws and Effect is a fantastic choice.
