Caturday Reads: Tail and Trouble bubbles over with wit

Tail and Trouble by Victor Catano Red Adept Publishing, LLC Mystery & Thrillers, Sci Fi & Fantasy Pub Date 10 May 2016 Review Bulldogs are profoundly lovable with their squat chunky bodies, slobbery kisses and earnest demeanor - and Orson is the most attractive of the bunch. He rapidly steals the spotlight with his ability to talk and work magic. When his Mama (Sheila, a powerful young witch) goes missing, Orson and Gabriel (her boyfriend) follow her trail to Florida. Victor Catano's depiction of Florida hits the target. I loved how he described the attractions and hotels of Orlando as lampreys feeding off a mouse eared shark. Also liked his creative use of Dinosaur World. Whether you are a Florida resident or merely a visitor there is a lot to enjoy. The setting works well with the plot highlighting the comic aspects. I absolutely cracked up when I discovered the climactic battle was to take place at The Holy Land Experience which is a weird place even by Christian standards. Tail and Trouble is tons of fun. It has a great canine lead, oodles of Florida humor, bad guys who are as laughable as they are malevolent, and just a touch of romance - what more could a reader ask for in a light paranormal/comic romp. 5/5 I received a copy of Tail and Trouble from the publisher and netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review. --Crittermom Description When Gabriel’s witch girlfriend doesn’t return from her latest trip, he gets on the road and heads out to find her. Sheila's coven is secretive and distrustful of Gabriel, so the only help he has is Sheila's familiar, a bulldog named Orson, who is psychically linked to both of them. In Florida, they walk right into an elaborate plan to steal Orson. A mysterious wizard named Yareth is behind the plot, and he may also know where Sheila is. Gabriel and Orson will have to fight for their lives as they navigate around all the magical roadblocks to force Yareth’s hand. They won’t give up until Sheila is safe.
