Lex discovers the source of her magic in Boundary Born

Boundary Born Boundary Magic, Book 3 by Melissa F. Olson 47North General Fiction (Adult), Sci Fi & Fantasy Pub Date 21 Jun 2016 Review Melissa F. Olson stands among the best current paranormal fiction writers. Her novels are heavy on character and action, but light on romance. If you are looking for paranormal romance, you will be disappointed. Boundary Born, the third book of Olson’s Boundary Magic series demonstrates Olson’s ability to keep her novels fresh and innovative. Her magical world grows and evolves with each novel. Boundary Born provides readers with a tantalizing glimpse of the origins of Lex’s abilities and her parentage. In the process of seeking a cure for the vampires poisoned by belladonna, including Maven herself, Lex uncovers the identity of her father as well as gaining a greater understanding of the history of the Old World. Lex is an appealing and complex heroine - far from being a Mary Sue. While she doesn’t need a man (or vampire) to rescue her, Lex appreciates the aid she receives from her friends. Lex relies on her wits and knowledge more than her magic. Not to mention she has a whole crew of pets that she cares for. Although readers can expect that each novel will require Lex to tackle a problem or threat to Maven’s community, the form it will take and the consequences are always a surprise. I look forward to seeing what Olson has in store for Lex in her next Boundary Magic novel. 4/5 I received a copy of Boundary Born from the publisher and netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review. —Crittermom Description Something wicked is at work in Colorado’s supernatural community. Vampires are being paralyzed or killed with poison…a weapon favored by witches. This offense threatens to break apart the already-fractured alliance between witches and the undead. The state’s cardinal vampire, Maven, summons boundary witch Allison “Lex” Luther to stop the killing before it ignites a war. Lex has barely started investigating when she gets another surprise: the biological father she’s never met arrives on her doorstep. He has answers to all of Lex’s questions about her bloodline, but getting those answers could mean betraying the life she’s already built. Then the next vampire is poisoned—and this time it’s Maven herself. The new evil that hunts Lex is powerful and ruthless enough to stop the strongest supernatural creature in the state. In order to find such a killer, Lex will have to face down her own birthright and call on every ally—both living and dead.
