Music, mayhem, and a missing mother

Rock-a-Bye Bones by Carolyn Haines St. Martin's Press Minotaur Books Mystery & Thrillers Pub Date 17 May 2016 Review Carolyn Haines definitely knows how to write an engaging cozy. Even if you haven't read any of her previous novels featuring Sarah Booth Delaney, you will quickly become a fan of her feisty but caring heroine and her talented pets. With Tinkie and her husband busy caring for the baby left on the doorstep of Dahlia House and Coleman preoccupied by an important case, it's up to Sarah to find the baby's missing mother who may be in extreme danger. While Sarah always has the help of her friends, Sweetie Pie (her hound) and Pluto (her cat) are the ones who manage to save the day - several times over the course of Rock-a-Bye Bones. (Hooray for pet lovers!) Even little Chablis, Tinkie's pampered pup tries to help. Between unraveling the plots of mean girls and two-faced teachers, and avoiding Gertrude's attempts to kill her, making a decision about her love life falls a distant third (despite the spirited efforts of Sarah's haint Jitty). Don't expect Sarah to make a choice between her three suitors anytime soon. Rock-a-Bye Bones is a fast paced page-turner of a cozy with a distinctly Southern flair and just a dash of zaniness. 4/5 I received a copy of Rock-a-Bye Bones from the publisher and Netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review --Crittermom Description Sarah Booth Delaney knows the perfect way to begin recovering from both the recent attack on Scott Hampton’s blues club and her broken heart. She’s going to host a Thanksgiving feast for all of her friends at her ancestral home in Zinnia, Mississippi. But one bitterly cold night with the holiday just around the corner, Sarah Booth awakens to the insistent ring of her doorbell. She opens the door to find a newborn baby in a basket sitting on her front porch…and a pool of blood slowly seeping out from the basket. Before she can respond, an engine guns and a dark vehicle takes off. After the police and a doctor ensure the baby is otherwise safe and healthy, Sarah Booth calls Tinkie Richmond, her partner at the Delaney Detective Agency. They know they need to do everything they can to find the baby's mother...even if they are starting to fall in love with the baby themselves. But as they track the baby's mother, Sarah Booth soon begins to suspect the woman might have been in danger; in fact, she might have been running for her life. And following in the woman's footsteps, Sarah Booth might find her own life on the line next.
