An entertaining addition to the Shannara series

The Sorcerer's Daughter The Defenders of Shannara by Terry Brooks

Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine Sci Fi & Fantasy

Pub Date: May 24, 2016 Review Once more Arcannen Rai sows murder and mayhem in an attempt to set the Federation and the Druids at each other's throats, as well as to settle the score between him and Paxon Leah. While Paxon accompanies a group of druids on a doomed diplomatic mission, his sister, finally learning to harness the wish song, is kidnapped. Paxton's lifemate Leofur, the estranged daughter of Arcannen Rai sets off in a desperate quest to find and rescue Chrysallin with the help of Imric, a shapeshifter. The Sorcerer's Daughter is a stand alone novel set after The Darkling Child. Personally I feel The Sorcerer's Daughter is a far better novel than its predecessor. I was drawn into the plot, particularly in the later half of the book. The Leofur/Imric storyline is a fascinating one. I did have one problem with the novel, and that is the casual way in which characters were killed. There often wasn't enough of a connection for the deaths to have any kind of emotional impact on the reader. It could be my imagination but it seemed like bumping of characters randomly was an easy way to eliminate worry about plot development or loose ends. 4/5 I received a copy of The Sorcerer's Daughter from the publisher and netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review. --Crittermom Description The inspiration for the epic MTV series, the world of Shannara is brimming with untold stories and unexplored territory. Now bestselling author Terry Brooks breaks new ground with a standalone adventure that's sure to thrill veteran readers and recent converts alike. The mysterious, magic-wielding Druid order has existed for long ages, battling any evil that threatens the Four Lands—and struggling to be understood and accepted by outsiders. But their hopes of building goodwill are dashed when a demon’s murderous rampage at a peace summit leaves their political opponents dead—casting new suspicions upon the Druids and forcing them to flee from enemies both mortal and monstrous. Paxon Leah, the order’s appointed protector, knows that blame lies with Arcannen Rai, the vile sorcerer he has battled and defeated before. But there’s no time to hunt his nemesis, if he is to lead the wrongfully accused Druids to their sanctuary. It is a quest fraught with danger, as a furious government agent and his army snap at their heels, and lethal predators stalk them in the depths of the untamed wilderness.
