Maddie Day serves up another delicious mystery in Grilled for Murder

Grilled for Murder By Maddie Day Kensington Books Mystery & Thrillers Pub Date: May 30, 2016 Review Maddie Day serves up another delicious mystery in Grilled for Murder. With the Christmas holidays approaching, Pans'N Pancakes is busier than ever. Hosting Erica Shermer's Welcome Home Party is icing on the cake. Unfortunately the party doesn't go as planned, with the guest of honor alternately offending and attempting to seduce guests - even Robbie's boyfriend, Jim. Still, Robbie doesn't expect to find Erica's body in her restaurant the following morning. Police are questioning everyone, including Robbie's friend Phil, who had been insulted by Erica's racist remarks. Solving puzzles appeals to Robbie, and getting her friend out of trouble doubly so. Asking questions comes naturally, particularly when you live in a small town where everyone knows everyone else. Erica was far from popular, but that doesn't explain her murder, or does it... With its cozy small town setting and charming characters, it is easy to understand the allure of Maddie Day's series. It is easy to imagine walking in to Pans 'N Pancakes, sitting down, and ordering a mouthwatering country breakfast with all the fixings. Robbie Jordan is as at-home behind the grill as she is solving puzzles. Fortunately for readers, Maddie Day includes a handful of recipes to try at home. While the whodunnit part of Grilled for Murder isn't all that difficult to solve, the novel is still enjoyable. Part of what I like most about the series are the characters - Wanda and Buck of the local police, Phil whose baking and music talent puts us all to shame, Adele and Samuel enjoying their romance, Birdy the adorable tuxedo kitten, and Abe who finally gets a chance to date Robbie. If you like cozies, you will enjoy visiting South Lick and reading Grilled for Murder is a great way to do it. I look forward to reading When the Grits Hit the Fan, the next book in Maddie Day's series. 4/5 I received a copy of Grilled for Murder from the publisher and netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review. --Crittermom Description Robbie Jordan may have had reservations about the murder victim, but she still needs to turn up the heat on a killer if she wants to keep her new restaurant open for business… In the charming small town of South Lick, Indiana, Robbie has transformed a rundown country store into the runaway hit Pans 'N Pancakes. But the most popular destination for miles around can also invite trouble. Erica Shermer may be the widow of handsome local lawyer Jim Shermer's brother, but she doesn't appear to be in mourning. At a homecoming party held in Robbie's store, Erica is alternately obnoxious and flirtatious--even batting her eyelashes at Jim. When Erica turns up dead in the store the next morning, apparently clobbered with cookware, the police suspect Robbie's friend Phil, who closed up after the party. To clear Phil and calm her customers, Robbie needs to step out from behind the counter and find the real killer in short order…
