Silence of the Lamps

Pub Date: April 26, 2016

I love well plotted cozy mysteries, particularly those with a delightful array of animals. Thus, it’s no surprise that Silence of the Lamps gets my approval. This page turner of a mystery has plenty of surprises for the reader. But that isn’t the only thing to recommend it. Part of what makes Karen Rose Smith’s mysteries a pleasure to read is the human element. Caprice has a large, loving, and complex family. While the mystery keeps the reader guessing, it is the array of characters that keep readers returning time and again. Caprice’s caring and empathy shine in her efforts to help others, both animals and human. These characteristics also make her a good investigator.

In Silence of the Lamps, murder hits close to home. When Drew Pierson, an employee turned rival is discovered dead, Caprice’s sister Nikki is the prime suspect. With her sister in danger of being arrested, Caprice immediately starts her own investigation, swiftly discovering that Drew Pierson had many enemies. But which of these is the killer?

What more could a mystery lover want? - a cleverly plotted mystery, caring, likable characters, wonderful cats and dogs, and many happy resolutions. I didn’t even mention the recipes at the end.

I received a copy of Silence of the Lamps from the publisher and in exchange for an honest review.

Things could not possibly get more chaotic when Drew is found bludgeoned to death by one of his grandmother's antique Tiffany lamps--and Nikki is the number one suspect. Now, Caprice must act fast to illuminate the truth and clear her sister's name--before a cold-blooded killer puts her lights out next…
