A Whisker of Trouble: A Second Chance Cat Mystery

Who can help falling in love with Elvis? - and by Elvis, I mean Elvis the rescue cat, the undisputed star of Sofie Ryan’s Second Chance Cat mysteries. Of course that doesn’t downplay the importance or the charm of the human characters. It is easy to see why Sarah can’t say no to her grandmother’s friends, the senior citizen version of Charlie’s angels (aspiring PIs). As much as Sarah would prefer to avoid detective work, helping Liz, Rose, and Mr P (the senior hacker who wears his pants up to his armpits) is second nature.
In A Whisker of Trouble, Elvis discovers a body at the home of Edison Hall. The victim is the wine expert hired by the family to appraise Hall’s wine collection. The collection is worthless, Hall was the victim of a well-planned con. As Sarah and her friends wade through the myriad items Edison Hall collected over the course of his life, they search for clues to the identity of the murderer.
Liz, Rose, and Mr P may be old, but they are also perceptive and good at putting pieces together. Sarah, Avery, and her friends do what they can to keep Charlotte’s Angels out of danger, but that often means putting Sarah and Elvis into danger. Thankfully, Elvis is able to tell when someone is lying, as well as whether they are packing away any delicious treats.
The wonderful assortment of characters is truly a firm foundation on which to build a winning series. When you throw in the cleverly plotted whodunnit, it is icing on the cake. I absolutely love Sofie Ryan’s Second Chance Cat mysteries and A Whisker of Trouble is a fantastic addition to the series.
Cat lover’s rejoice - Elvis is on the job.
I received a copy of A Whisker of Trouble from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
The New York Times bestselling author of Buy a Whisker offers another adventure with secondhand shop owner Sarah Grayson and Elvis the rescue cat.
Spring has come to charming North Harbor, Maine, and with the new season comes a new haul for Second Chance, the shop where Sarah Grayson sells lovingly refurbished and repurposed items. Sarah is turning her keen eye to the estate of collector Edison Hall, hoping for fabulous finds for Second Chance—but when her rescue cat Elvis discovers a body in the kitchen, everything goes paws up.
The body belongs to an appraiser who had been hired to check out Edison’s wine collection. When Edison’s sister shows up at Second Chance, she hires Sarah’s friends—the kooky and charismatic trio of ladies who call themselves Charlotte’s Angels and work out of the shop—to solve the murder, Sarah knows she and Elvis are only going to get deeper into the case. But as it becomes a cat and mouse game of lies, cons, cheats, and family squabbles, can Elvis and Sarah claw their way to the truth before the killer slinks away forever?
