Description

The Ocean Painting Society invites you to join the painting wave...

It’s June in the quiet Los Angeles County city of Vista Beach, the place computer programmer and tole-painting enthusiast Aurora (Rory) Anderson calls home. Decorative painters are flocking to the newly built Akaw hotel to attend the Ocean Painting Society’s inaugural convention.

During the week-long event, Rory plans on shopping the trade show floor, working in her mother’s booth, taking classes and connecting with other decorative painting fans. She doesn’t expect to witness her childhood friend collapse in class and die. When the police find no evidence of foul play, Rory embarks on her own investigation. Can she brush aside the lies to uncover the truth and bring the killer to justice?

Review

Vista Beach is a charming city, but many residents are not at all happy about the newly built Akaw Hotel. While protestors demonstrate outside, tole enthusiasts are flocking to the hotel for the Ocean Painting Society's Inaugural Convention. Amongst the attendees is Rory's friend Jasmine, a young woman suffering from narcolepsy. When she abruptly dies during a class, from an apparent overdose of GBH, police rule the death accidental. Rory doesn't accept their ruling and decides to start asking questions. With the help of her friends and a handsome detective, Rory just might find a killer.

Paint the Town Dead is filled with charming characters painted in broad strokes. While they aren't the most complex, they add color and support the plot. Paint the Town Dead has a well developed plot, and several twists that will keep readers guessing. The novel's main weakness lies in the writing style, which is at times awkward, jolting the reader out of an otherwise immersive experience.

On the whole, I recommend Paint the Town Dead. It is a cozy perfect for anyone who enjoys painting or murder mysteries.

4/5

Pain the Town Dead is the second Aurora Anderson mystery. It is available for preorder and will be released December 8, 2015.

I received a copy of Paint the Town Dead from the publisher and netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
