Holly Miller is delighted her grandmother has finally left the Sugar Maple Inn to take a well-deserved vacation. It means Holly’s in charge, but running the inn might be more challenging than she realized. Wagtail’s throwing a weekend-long murder mystery game to draw in tourists during the slow season, the inn has a full house, and a blizzard is on the way.

Trouble is unleashed the night the game begins, when the storm blows in and the lights go out. It gets worse the following morning when Holly’s Jack Russell terrier, Trixie, discovers a body—one that’s actually dead. Now Holly, her calico kitten Twinkletoes, and Trixie must play by the rules and find one dirty dog...

If you love animals and mystery, Murder Most Howl is a terrific selection. This novel is a pet lover's delight combining a bevy of wonderful dogs and cats and a fun and original mystery. Krista Davis has a talent for coming up with unusual plots that are believable. It is nice when a mystery is entertaining and challenging.

Wagtail is a pet lover's paradise. All restaurants and businesses are pet friendly and encourage visitors to allow their pets to accompany them. The Sugar Maple Inn is no exception, participating in an event matching adoptable dogs to visitors and a weekend long murder mystery game/scavenger hunt. Participants and their pets hunt for clues to solve whodunnit.

On the first night of the game, however, Trixie, Holly’s Jack Russell discovers a real body outside in the snow. Then, participants begin discovering “clues” that are offensive and hint at impropriety amongst the Wagtail residents.

Holly has a lot on her plate, but solving a murder comes first, particularly when it threatens the Inn. As more bodies follow, Holly, Trixie, Twinkletoes and their friends must work to discover the clues that lead to a real killer.

I absolutely love Wagtail and its variety of residents both four legged and human. This series is a pleasure to read, and is suitable for all ages of mystery lover. I can’t wait to see what Krista Davis has in store for her next Wagtail adventure. Murder Most Howl would make a great holiday gift for the pet lover on your list.

Murder Most Howl is the third of Krista Davis’s Claws & Paws mystery series. The books do not have to be read in order. I can guarantee if you like one, you will enjoy them all.

I received a copy of Murder Most Howl from Berkley Press in exchange for an honest review.
