Jivaja is a good read, entertaining but not memorable. Still it has potential. Mostly, it’s a typical girl meets vamp, discovers her power to destroy evil vamps, but is also drawn to one of them with his own agenda. Vamps have a war coming and need Mecca’s power. The biggest difference is that Mecca’s father plays a big role, and has the same powers she does. So we have a traditional setup plus the potential build in of a father daughter conflict. Jivaja is definitely setting the groundwork for a series. The big question is will it surpass the cliched masses.
I’d prefer to read the next book before giving my final opinion, but as of now I’d give Jivaja a 3.5 / 5. (rounded up to 4 / 5 )
I received a copy of Jivaja from the publisher and netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
Mecca is a murderer. At least, that’s what she thinks...
Shadow Hunt gets off to a bit of a rocky start, but once the novel hits its stride it is fantastic. In Melissa F Olson’s newest novel, Scarlett faces two of her most difficult challenges - being pregnant and going against an extremely powerful European coven of dark witches. There is plenty of action, and we get to see several of our favourite characters from Olson’s other series. Fans of Scarlett/Jesse will finally get to see some progress on their relationship. And as always Shadow is a joy - she is one smart barghest and is always good for a bit of mischief.
Shadow Hunt presumes readers are familiar with Olson’s world, but there is still enough information given for newcomers to not be at a loss. If you haven’t read Olson’s books before, it is better to start at the beginning of the series. I definitely recommend Shadow Hunt to f...
Integral isn't bad once you get into the story. It gets off to a rocky start not because it's badly written, but because you aren't given much of a reason to care. It took a long time to connect to the protagonists - two Vampire investigators (similar to FBI agents but the country is run by corporations rather than a federal government). The initial half of the novel are seemingly unrelated cases, giving it the feel of an anthology or serial. There’s more meat when you get to the core story of a Mage who breaks out of their university (prison) and is forced to assassinate a vampire leader. The duo, plus a warden from the university and the Mage herself are forced to deal with the fallout.
There are numerous loose ends left - the drug jester, the individual bitten who may or may not be an undiscovered Mage left to turn into a vampire after an attack by a drug mad va...

General Fiction (Adult) , Sci Fi & Fantasy
Pub Date 25 Jul 2017
Melissa F Olson has dealt readers a winning hand with her newest novel, Blood Gamble. In this case, both the house and the gambler (the reader) will be happy with the results. Blood Gamble is a taught urban fantasy that once more demonstrates that Olson is not your average writer and that she has plenty of surprises in store for Scarlett Bernard and her fans.
As a favor to Dashiell, Scarlett heads to Vegas - the last place she wants to go. Her cover is attending a bridal party for her sister-in-law, but her real task is to discover what is going on with the Bellagio’s newest show - a vampire extravaganza created by none other than Lucy and Arthur Holmwood, a pair of vampire celebrities who played an important role in Stoker’s masterpiece. Needless to say there is trouble brewing in Vegas, on multiple fronts. Vampires are disappearing and there...
In the first book of the Disrupted Magic series, Melissa F. Olson goes back to focusing on her original heroine, Scarlett Bernard, nullifier of magic and supernatural clean up expert. The paranormal population of LA rely on her to keep humans from discovering the hidden supernatural world.
In Midnight Curse, Scarlett discovers her friend Molly in the center of a bloodbath. Despite the obvious evidence, Scarlett knows Molly cannot be responsible for the vicious murder of the 12 coeds she lived with. Unfortunately with the Vampire Trials about to begin, she has little time to discover the truth. With the help of former cop Jesse Cruz and her barghest Shadow, Scarlett starts seeking answers, soon uncovering a plot for revenge that threatens to throw the entire supernatural community into chaos.
As always, Melissa F Olson gives readers plenty of fa...

General Fiction (Adult), Sci Fi & Fantasy

Melissa F. Olson stands among the best current paranormal fiction writers. Her novels are heavy on character and action, but light on romance. If you are looking for paranormal romance, you will be disappointed. Boundary Born, the third book of Olson’s Boundary Magic series demonstrates Olson’s ability to keep her novels fresh and innovative. Her magical world grows and evolves with each novel. Boundary Born provides readers with a tantalizing glimpse of the origins of Lex’s abilities and her parentage. In the process of seeking a cure for the vampires poisoned by belladonna, including Maven herself, Lex uncovers the identity of her father as well as gaining a greater understanding of the history of the Old World.
Lex is an appealing and complex heroine - far from being a Mary Sue. While she doesn’t need a man (or vampire) to resc...
